  • Green fly ? whith fly ? sticky leaves ? Whats attacking my chilli`s ??

Hi all.just noticed that my greenhouse chilli`s are suffering the dreaded green fly. However can anyone shed a light on to the little white fly like larvae that does not move but has let all the leaves sticky ????Would i be right in thinking it is the casing from the emerged green fly or something more sinister.

Yes, you're right Minty. These are the "egg cases"

Yeah, white fly secrete (I presume) something sticky that then encourages a back mould to grow on it, so everything gets coated. Not sure if they whitefly themselves do much damage, or not, but the black-mould is a bit of a pain.

Once they get a hold if you shake the plant you will get "cloud" of whitefly.

The smell of Marigolds deters them, or the Encarsia (SP?) parasite. Or chemicals (which have very limited effect, IME, even the more pernicious ones, at this time of the year)

Follow the link from 'leaves' until you get a picture of the aphid casings, it gives a good description and suggests it is Peach Potato Aphid.
